The Verizon Foundation, The New York Urban League and the New York City Department of Education have partnered up on a collaboration announced on Monday. This initiative will offer students and members of the Harlem community a technology education center at the Harlem Renaissance High School.
Verizon Donates Technology Education Center
The Verizon Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, has agreed to donate $300,000. Verizon will be funding this venture through 2011. However, the New York Urban League will be responsible for organizing and offering technology-related courses, along with help from the Department of Education.
“Verizon’s commitment [to this project] is for two years,” said John Bonomo, a spokesman for Verizon in an interview with Suite101. “Today we provided $150,000 and next year we’ll do the same for a total of $300,000. We’re providing the money, but we’ll leave it up to the Urban League and Harlem Renaissance High School as to how it’s best spent.”
